The role of the AFCRN Membership Committee is: 

To examine membership requests (supported by consultant report(s) and evaluation of data)

To review provisional memberships each year, to decide on: upgrade/continuation/ termination

To review membership status of members failing to adhere to criteria 5-9

  • Members must accept participation in joint AFCRN projects:
    • as approved at the AFCRN Annual Meeting
    • and approved by the AFCRN Research Committee
  • Members must adhere to the policy (as agreed at the AFCRN Annual Meeting ) on International Collaborative Research
  • Members must maintain an up to date Web Page on the Network website
  • Member registries should contribute data to the African Cancer Registry Database
  • Representatives from member registries should not be absent at two consecutive annual meeting

To review membership status of members no longer producing valid population-based data

  • (criterion 4:The registry must be POPULATION BASED, and achieving at least 50% coverage of the target population)
  • (criterion 8: Member registries should contribute data to the African Cancer Registry Database)

East Africa: Josefo Ferro (Beira CR, Mozambique)

Southern Africa: Judith Mwansa-Kambafwile (South African NCR, SA)

West Africa: Ima Ekanem (Calabar CR, Nigeria)

Francophone countries: Franck Gnahatin (Abidjan CR, Cote d'Ivoire) 

IARC: Freddie Bray
