Background

The Lubango Cancer Registry was established on February 4, 2022, with a ceremony, with the participation of the Governor of Huíla and other Public Health entities.

The registry is directed by Dr Maria Lina Antunes, PhD, supported by five staff.

From left to right: Registrar - Michael Gaspar (IT Technician), Coordinator-Eliane Muachissengue (Bachelor in Health Information Systems), Registrar-Nelson Lázaro (IT Technician), Registrar-Gomes Kuahamba (IT Technician) and José Hinhame Lázaro (IT Technician).

How the registry works:

Cancer cases are collected using the official form of AFCRN and then the data is entered into CanReg5, from which quality analyses are carried out. We also use IARC tools for data analysis. The registry faces difficulties with data quality due to the lack of knowledge about oncology and difficulties with pathological anatomy.

Registry area:

The population projection for 2022-2023 for Lubango is 1,020,558.

Methods of registration; Data management

The registry uses the notification form of AFCRN, for coding we use the CIE-O 3rd edition,  and codes were created for place of residence, ethnicity, reporting unit and laboratory. All data are entered electronically into the CanReg5 system, in addition to a paper file.
